A quick summary of the route, support level, and the main things travelers should know before booking.
Mt. Amadablam (6812m) is one of the prettiest mountains that dominate the sky above the famous trekker’s trail-the Everest Base Camp trail. ‘Ama’ means mother and ‘Dablam’ means the sacred ornament box worn by ladies in the Sherpa community. The glacier lying on the Southwest face of the mountain looks like a jewel box hanging on the neck of the mountain. Therefore, the mountain is named Ama Dablam, the literal meaning of which is ‘The Mother’s Jewel box’. This alluring mountain was first attempted by Mike Gill (NZ), Barry Bishop (USA), Mike Ward (UK) and Wally Romanes (NZ) on March 13, 1961. Since then the mountain has attracted many climbers and still continues to do so.
The Expedition: The Ama Dablam expedition is typically a 30 day expedition in the Everest region of Nepal. About 16 days are required to conquer the three high camps set above the base camp and the summit. Other days are spent trekking through the scenic Khumbu valley below Tengboche. The expedition starts with a scenic flight to Lukla, from where, following the Everest base camp trail, we hike all the way up to Tengboche. From Tengboche, leaving the Everest base camp trail we head towards the Ama Dablam base camp. The mountain is attempted from its south-west ridge. It’s a technically difficult route that requires you to pass through the toughest and the most difficult saddle ridges, rocky ground and the boulders up till the first camp; severe rocky bowl and ridges through the fixed line up till the second camp; steep mixed alleyways of rock, ice and snow, sloping snow ground, steep snow and ice tunnel and the path along the snow ridge up till the third camp. From the third camp to the summit, it’s a steep climb on snow and ice, along the huge hanging glacier. The top presents magnificent view of Mt. Everest, the Island peak, Makalu, the Khumbu Himalayas and other surrounding snow capped peaks. After successfully climbing the mountain, we return, following the same route used earlier down till Lukla, from where we take a flight back to Kathmandu.
While in Kathmandu your accommodation and meal (bed and breakfast only) is arranged in a hotel. From Lukla to Tengboche full board meal and accommodation is arranged in the lodges, where we stop for overnight. During the climb the accommodation and meal are arranged in the tented camp. You will be guided by experienced and certified climbing and trekking guides and other crew members during the entire expedition.
Apart from the expedition, you can also enjoy the floras and faunas in the Sagarmatha National Park, alluring landscape, mesmerizing scenery, and the culture, tradition and warm hospitality of the Sherpa people, residing in the Khumbu region. Spring (April-May) and Autumn (September-October) are the best months to plan this expedition. If you are looking to avoid traffic, planning the expedition early winter is also considered a good idea.

What travelers say after the trip
Everest Base Camp Trek
★★★★★
WOW, Where do I start? I have wanted to do this trek for about 30 years, so when we decided to book we compared many trekking companies to decide who to go with and #AmigoTrekking scored the best and they certainly lived up to expectations. We had an amazing journey far better than our wildest dreams. There were a few reasons why our trip was so good and here's why. Prior to the Journey: AMIGO Trekking were so professional prior to the journey, answering my numerous emails in the leadup in regards to gear requirements, weight of rental gear and logistics. We communicated with Niti regularly and she always got back to me within 24 hours. This is very important when trying to plan such a trip. Amigo and Niti were also the only company that effortlessly accommodated our desire to extend our stay in Tengboche to attend the festival at the monastery. (November) Once we arrived: We were greeted at the airport by a very friendly and professional mountain guide 'Hari Adhikari' who immediately helped us navigate our exit from the airport making a very chaotic situation easy. We felt like royalty. Little did we know at that point just how much this one man would shape our trek into the amazing journey it became. For the next 14 days Hari was by our side perfectly pacesetting our speed for success. He steered us to quality tea houses with the best food for breaks, negotiated the best rooms for us every night and even showed us the best spots for pictures along the way. His experience and cheery disposition was very visible with every interaction he had. He seemed to be best friends with every guide, porter and tea house owner we passed. Hence we nicknamed him 'Happy Hari'. No task was too big or small and he made a point of letting us know where he'd be every night (his room number, tent or dining room) in case we needed him. He was not only the main reason for our successful completion of the Trek, but added many enjoyable moments for us as well. If you are lucky enough to have Hari as your guide, make sure you take a pack of UNO cards with you. Hari loves the game! Along with Hari we were also lucky to have on our team an amazing young man Chandra (Sandra) who was our super human porter. He too always wore a smile, even when lugging our bags over rock after rock! Thanks mate, we don't know how you do it. If we can impart one thing we've learned that will make your Trek in Nepal memorable. It's go with Amigo and insist on Hari and Chandra. You won't regret it! Thanks guys, we are forever grateful.
