The journey starts with a scenic bus ride from Kathmandu to Pokhara and then to Nayapul. The trek begins from Nayapul which follows the regular trail up till Tadapani crossing Ghandruk. From Tadapani, trekkers follow off-the-beaten trail up till Khopra ridge and Khayer Lake. Coming down, the trail joins the regular trail at Chitre, which continues till Nayapul after enjoying Ghorepani and Poon Hill.

Itinerary

Day-by-day route outline

Welcome to Kathmandu – the capital city of Nepal. Today is your first day with Amigo Treks & Expedition. Therefore, we send one of our company representatives to receive you at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), who will further escort you to a tourist standard hotel booked for you in Kathmandu. If possible, we also schedule a meeting at our office for the briefing regarding the trek, which is followed by an introduction session with other team members (especially Sherpas and guides). Today, we also arrange a welcome dinner in one of the most popular local restaurants, where you can enjoy the ethnic dance and cultural music along with great Nepali food. If your flight arrives late, both the meeting and dinner can be scheduled for the following day. Meals included: Dinner (Highlights of the day: Nepali food, Cultural music and Ethnic dance)

The capital, Kathmandu valley itself, is a big storehouse of exclusive natural, cultural and historical sites. Therefore, today, we take you on a few hour tours to the major attractions of Kathmandu valley. After spending few hours observing these wonderful sites, we again meet for a few hours to finalize your clothing and trekking gears (down jacket, trekking boots, sleeping bags etc.) required during the trek. The night will be spent at a hotel in Kathmandu. Meals included: Breakfast (Highlights of the day: World Heritage sites like Kathmandu Durbar Square (a historical structure offering architectural wonders), the Pashupatinath temple (a Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva- lord possessing the power of destruction), Swyambhunath and Boudhanath – (a Buddhist shrine dedicated to Lord Buddha- Light of Asia). Optional site:Another World Heritage site ‘Patan Durbar Square’ along with other historical masterpieces like Mahabouddha Temple, Krishna Temple, Golden Temple and Kumbeshwor Temple.)

Today, in the morning our guides will come to pick you up at your hotel and escort you to the bus station to catch an early morning, comfortable tourist bus to Pokhara. The bus will head towards the west of Kathmandu Valley and continue the journey towards the western part of Nepal following the Prithvi Highway along the Trishuli river. The bus will stop twice – once for breakfast and then for lunch and continue until we reach Pokhara. The evening can be utilized to explore the lake area. The night will be spent at a tourist standard hotel in Pokhara. Meals included: Breakfast (Highlights of the day: Comfortable tourist bus, windy highway along the Trisuli River, breathtaking view of waterfalls, rivers, jungles, hamlets higher up on the hills, terraced fields with seasonal crop, different vegetations, curious faces of people running motels, restaurants and lodges, Lake area in Pokhara.)

Today is the first day of the trek and our destination is Ghandruk. A 2 hour ride will take us to Nayapul. On reaching Nayapul, the luggage is prepared for the porters. After a short pre-trek preparation, we walk down to Birethanti, where our team leaders will take care of all the check in formalities at the ACAP office. After this, we cross the suspension bridge over the Modi River. Then walking on the bank of the Modi Khola, we cross Syauli Bazaar. Out of Syauli Bazaar and a winding stone step trail will take us to Ghandruk crossing small settlements like Kimche, Chane and Imle. On reaching Ghandruk, we rest for some time and then walk around the village to explore its cultural beauty. The night will be spent at a lodge in Ghandruk. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (Highlights of the day: Magnificent view of Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South and Hiunchuli, small Brahmin and Chhetri settlement, unique lifestyle of people living in Kimche, Chane and Imle, and Ghandruk – a beautiful Gurung village, terraced farm featuring seasonal crops and vegetables.)

Today is the second day of the trek and leaving the beautiful village of Ghandruk behind, we hike up to our destination, Tadapani. From Ghandruk, we ascend through the forest of Oak and Rhododendron that is alive with the sound of chirping birds, blooming rhododendron forest, singing waterfalls and the fine view of peaks in the Annapurna region. The settlement of people is almost nil here; however, trekkers can enjoy few teahouses en route. After hiking through the forest, we finally reach Tadapani. We also enjoy the sunset view in the evening. The night will be spent at a lodge in Tadapani. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (Highlights of the day: A pleasant walk through rhododendron and Oak forest featuring varieties of birds and insects, waterfall, a magnificent view of Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Annapurna IV, Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre and Lamjung Himal, sunset view from Tadapani).

Today is the third day of the trek and our destination is Bayali. Leaving the main trail (Annapurna Circuit Trekking trail), we follow the trail that passes through beautiful rhododendron and oak forest. Initially, the trail ascends gently, which later descends a little. After this small descent, the walk continues upward through rhododendron forest, passing several clearings up till the bigger ridge top clearing at Baisi Kharka. From here we further ascend until we reach Bayeli. The night will be spent at a lodge in Bayeli. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (Highlights of the day: Pleasant walk through dense rhododendron forest, remote area of Annaurna region, a chance to spot some wild animals and Danphe – national bird of Nepal, excellent view of Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre and Dhaulagiri, and stay at community lodges.)

Today is the fourth day of the trek and our destination is Khopra Danda. In the morning, we take a short walk above the lodge for sunrise view. We then come back, have breakfast and descend towards the pastures of lower Chistibung. A gradual climb from here through the forest will lead us to Upper Chistibung passing the grassy ridge above the trail. From Upper Chistibung, a steep climb above the tree line through alpine meadows and pastures will take us to Khopra. We then take a walk down Khopra Ridge towards the viewpoint for the spectacular view mountains. The night will be spent at a teahouse in Khopra. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (Highlights of the day:Amazing mountain panorama including Mt. Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri and Annapuna South, and Kaligandaki river far below the ridge, experience of alpine meadows and pastures, rhododendron forest, an opportunity to spot Lhophophorus and Himalalyan Thar, and temporary herder’s settlement.)

Today is the fifth day of the trek and our we spend the day exploring the area. A five hour hike from Khopra Danda will take us to Khayar Lake, a rarely visited sacred fresh water lake situated at an altitude of 4,600m above the sea level, which is even higher than Annapurna Base Camp. It is believed that the lake is used by leopards to quench their thirst. We spend some time exploring the Khair Barahi temple area, and watching different varieties of birds and walk back to Khopra Danda. The night will be spent at a teahouse in Khopra Danda. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (Highlights of the day: A visit to Khayer Lake, a lake which is known to very few people, temple near the lake, experience of different birds and if you are lucky you can also spot leopards.)

Today is the sixth day of the trek and our destination is Swanta which is a Magar village. From Khopra Danda, an hour of downward walk will take us to Upper Chistibung. From here, enjoying the views of Dahaulagiri, terraced fields and traditional houses, we further descend to Swanta. The night will be spent at a lodge in Swanta. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (Highlights of the day: Splendid view of Dhaulagiri, terraced fields and traditional houses, lifestyle of people in Magar village.)

Today is the seventh day of the trek and our destination is Ghorepani. Initially the trail drops down through the village fields and towards a small river, where we can see small water mill. We cross a suspension bridge and head towards Chitre Village. On reaching Chitre, we meet the main trekking trail, where we can also meet other trekkers trekking different sections of Annapurna region. From here, the trail ascends to Ghorepani. The night will be spent at a lodge in Ghorepani. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (Highlights of the day: View of small water mill, and a great view of Dhaulagiri massif.)

Today is the last day of the trek. Today, early in the morning we hike up to Poon Hill for the sunrise view. We then come back, have breakfast and continue towards ending the trek. Initially we descend through the forest of Oak and Rhododendron, crossing Nangge Thanti and Banthanti until we reach Ulleri. On reaching Ulleri, following the stone steps, we climb down to Tikhedhungga after crossing a suspension bridge. Then passing few settlements: Hile, Sudame, Lamdawali we finally reach Nayapul to catch a bus to Pokhara. After about two hours ride, we reach Pokhara. In Pokhara, you will be taken to a tourist standard hotel, where you can take a hot shower and relax your tired muscles. In the evening, you can either relax at your hotel or take a stroll around the lake side in Pokhara. The night will be spent at a tourist standard hotel in Pokhara. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch (Highlights of the day:Magnificent sunrise view and close up view of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna range with 20 other highest peaks of the world from Poon Hill, Thousands of stone steps, Ulleri – a large Magar village which offers magnificent view of Annapurna South, and Himchuli, Rhododendron and Oak forest, spectacular view of Annapurna range and Dhaulagiri from Ghorepani, Stupas, temples, internet cafes Ghorepani and the view of Machhapuchhre and the experience of Modi River, waterfalls and countryside villages. Plus Lake side, tourist standard hotel and nightlife in Pokhara.)

Today, from Pokhara we catch a tourist standard bus to Kathmandu. Leaving Pokhara, we head east toward the capital city, Kathmandu. After 7 hours of drive all the way through Prithvi Highway, we reach Kathmandu. On reaching Kathmandu you will be escorted to your hotel, where you can freshen up and rest for some time. Around the evening, the company representatives conduct a short meeting to discuss the trip, your experience and the feedback. The night will be spent at a tourist standard hotel in Kathmandu. Meals included: Breakfast & Dinner

This day is the last day of your trip in Nepal with Amigo Treks and Expedition. If your flight is scheduled early morning, then one of our company representatives will escort you to the airport as per your flight departure time. But, if the flight is scheduled later in the evening, you can go shopping and collect a few mementos or simply hang around shopping areas in Kathmandu. However, if you are planning to spend some extra days in Nepal, Amigo Treks and Expedition can also make the arrangements for some other top adventurous activities that you can attend while you are in Nepal. Meals included: Breakfast (The usual day for a trek: Every day, our guides will come to wake you up at around 7:00-7:30am. In case of special days like sunrise viewing days our guides will wake you up early in the morning at around 4-4:30am. A western breakfast like porridge, oats, toasts, etc. will be served at around 8:00-8:30am. The lunch will be served from a teahouse menu at about 12-1pm. However, the lunch time can also be postponed on request. The dinner will be served at around 8:30-9:00pm. Your accommodation is arranged at a lodge or also in a tourist standard hotel (subject to availability) where we stop for overnight. While you are walking, you can also request your guide to slow down and stop at the places where you want to take some snaps. After dinner and before going to bed your team leader will brief you regarding the next day’s schedule.)

WOW, Where do I start? I have wanted to do this trek for about 30 years, so when we decided to book we compared many trekking companies to decide who to go with and #AmigoTrekking scored the best and they certainly lived up to expectations. Prior to the Journey: AMIGO Trekking were so professional prior to the journey, answering my numerous emails in the leadup in regards to gear requirements, weight of rental gear and logistics. We communicated with Niti regularly and she always got back to me within 24 hours. This is very important when trying to plan such a trip. Amigo and Niti were also the only company that effortlessly accommodated our desire to extend our stay in Tengboche to attend the festival at the monastery. (November) Once we arrived: We were greeted at the airport by a very friendly and professional mountain guide 'Hari Adhikari' who immediately helped us navigate our exit from the airport making a very chaotic situation easy. We felt like royalty. Little did we know at that point just how much this one man would shape our trek into the amazing journey it became. For the next 14 days Hari was by our side perfectly pacesetting our speed for success. He steered us to quality tea houses with the best food for breaks, negotiated the best rooms for us every night and even showed us the best spots for pictures along the way. His experience and cheery disposition was very visible with every interaction he had. He seemed to be best friends with every guide, porter and tea house owner we passed. Hence we nicknamed him 'Happy Hari'. No task was too big or small and he made a point of letting us know where he'd be every night (his room number, tent or dining room) in case we needed him. He was not only the main reason for our successful completion of the Trek, but added many enjoyable moments for us as well. If you are lucky enough to have Hari as your guide, make sure you take a pack of UNO cards with you. Hari loves the game! Along with Hari we were also lucky to have on our team an amazing young man Chandra (Sandra) who was our super human porter. He too always wore a smile, even when lugging our bags over rock after rock! Thanks mate, we don't know how you do it. If we can impart one thing we've learned that will make your Trek in Nepal memorable. It's go with Amigo and insist on Hari and Chandra. You won't regret it! Thanks guys, we are forever grateful.
