Trip overview
A quick summary of the route, support level, and the main things travelers should know before booking.
The Tsum Valley, as per the beliefs of the Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism, is a valley blessed as one of the refuges by Padmasabhava. It’s a sacred Himalayan pilgrimage valley situated in the backdrop of Ganesh Himal (south), Sringi Himal (north) and Himal Chuli and the Boudha range (west), in the northern Gorkha. The valley is comprised of two remote villages: Chumchet- the lower Tsum and Chhekampar- the Upper Tsum. It is one of the world’s remotest Himalayan valleys that preserves a long history of Buddhism together with the ancient art, culture and a very unique dialect. The place is very distinct both geographically and culturally.
Restricted until 2008, not many adventure travelers have made it to this high and unexplained valley. For those who aren’t already planning a trek to the Tsum Valley will surely be missing out on the wilderness hike to the hidden valley accompanied by artistic chortens and mani walls made of thousands of stone slab carved with drawing of deities and inscribed with prayers; ancient remains of the Tsum Kingdom; living Buddhist culture; centuries old nunneries, ancient monasteries, like Rachhen Gumba, Mu Gumba, Lungdang; Kiymu Lung-pilgrimage circuit famous for its center of learning and medication; ancient form of Buddhist dialect; the intact Tibetan culture and tradition; the remoteness and inaccessibility untouched for centuries; rich wildlife, including Himalayan Thar and Blue Sheep; unique festivals of Tsumbas (residents of the Tsum Valley) like Lhosar, Dhacyhang, Saka Dawa and Faning and the variation in altitude within the valley (Lowest point Lhokpa-1905m and highest point Ngula Dhojhag Pass- over 5093m on the Tibetan border.
Interesting facts: i) hunting and fishing are prohibited, ii) people still practice polyandry and iii) existence of ‘Yeti’ (as claimed by many natives).
The valley is believed to be the reminiscent of paradise, which can only be reached with enormous hardship. Therefore, after struggling through the Manaslu circuit trail up till the trail junction of Ghap and the Tsum Valley, we enter the beautiful forest of Pine and Rhododendron that opens up to reveal a small Tibetan –style village nestled in a very beautiful landscape of the Tsum Valley. Spring and Autumn are more rewarding and supportive if you are looking forward to this trekking.

Everest Base Camp Trek

WOW, Where do I start? I have wanted to do this trek for about 30 years, so when we decided to book we compared many trekking companies to decide who to go with and #AmigoTrekking scored the best and they certainly lived up to expectations. We had an amazing journey far better than our wildest dreams. There were a few reasons why our trip was so good and here's why. Prior to the Journey: AMIGO Trekking were so professional prior to the journey, answering my numerous emails in the leadup in regards to gear requirements, weight of rental gear and logistics. We communicated with Niti regularly and she always got back to me within 24 hours. This is very important when trying to plan such a trip. Amigo and Niti were also the only company that effortlessly accommodated our desire to extend our stay in Tengboche to attend the festival at the monastery. (November) Once we arrived: We were greeted at the airport by a very friendly and professional mountain guide 'Hari Adhikari' who immediately helped us navigate our exit from the airport making a very chaotic situation easy. We felt like royalty. Little did we know at that point just how much this one man would shape our trek into the amazing journey it became. For the next 14 days Hari was by our side perfectly pacesetting our speed for success. He steered us to quality tea houses with the best food for breaks, negotiated the best rooms for us every night and even showed us the best spots for pictures along the way. His experience and cheery disposition was very visible with every interaction he had. He seemed to be best friends with every guide, porter and tea house owner we passed. Hence we nicknamed him 'Happy Hari'. No task was too big or small and he made a point of letting us know where he'd be every night (his room number, tent or dining room) in case we needed him. He was not only the main reason for our successful completion of the Trek, but added many enjoyable moments for us as well. If you are lucky enough to have Hari as your guide, make sure you take a pack of UNO cards with you. Hari loves the game! Along with Hari we were also lucky to have on our team an amazing young man Chandra (Sandra) who was our super human porter. He too always wore a smile, even when lugging our bags over rock after rock! Thanks mate, we don't know how you do it. If we can impart one thing we've learned that will make your Trek in Nepal memorable. It's go with Amigo and insist on Hari and Chandra. You won't regret it! Thanks guys, we are forever grateful.
