Overview

Trip overview

A quick summary of the route, support level, and the main things travelers should know before booking.

It’s the experience of unparalleled beauty, where your eyes can feast on the enthralling beauty of nature, it’s the experience of adventure, where every step encourages another step to move forward without looking back, it’s the experience of a peaceful life away from the usual skyscrapers. Moreover, this time it’s also an experience of hardship, where your eyes can witness the post earthquake life of people in the remote village of Gorkha: Barpak, Laprak and Gumda. The beauty, culture and the hospitality of these villages in the Gorkha district of Nepal have never failed to attract tourists in the past. However, the destructive earthquake on 25th April 2015 has very badly shattered the settlement making almost everyone homeless, jobless and hopeless.

Therefore, this trek by Amigo Treks and Expedition is designed to attract your attention towards these areas to help these people get back to normalcy, while helping you fulfill the dreams of trekking the trails of Nepal. Despite the destruction, the remote track, the Himalayan panorama, diverse scenery and the unique culture are very much welcoming and the people here are still ready to serve their guests with the best they can offer.

Starting Kathmandu, this 11 day Barpak Trek itinerary will take you to the three main beautiful Gorkha villages: Barpak, Laprak and Gumda, where along with the beauty of nature you can also enjoy the culture, tradition, settlement and the hospitality of Gurung people. The Kathmandu city tour is also included in the same package. Since, the lodges were destroyed by the earthquake; this trek is a home stay trek with local food and accommodation with very basic amenities. However, full board is ensured during the trek. Local transportation is available up till Baluwa (starting point of the trek) and from Arughat (ending point of the trek). Private jeep can be arranged on request, but requires extra cost.

This trek is perfect for anyone looking to do a little volunteer work, while on their way to making a memorable holiday. Come with a group and get special discount. You can also customize the itinerary as per your requirements and we guarantee 100% departure on each customized package. This trip can be planned any time of the year. Moreover, people who are looking for a purely adventurous trek, we offer some of the best deals on Everest, Annapurna, Langtang and Manaslu trekking packages. Enjoy!

      ★★★★★

WOW, Where do I start? I have wanted to do this trek for about 30 years, so when we decided to book we compared many trekking companies to decide who to go with and #AmigoTrekking scored the best and they certainly lived up to expectations. We had an amazing journey far better than our wildest dreams. There were a few reasons why our trip was so good and here's why. Prior to the Journey: AMIGO Trekking were so professional prior to the journey, answering my numerous emails in the leadup in regards to gear requirements, weight of rental gear and logistics. We communicated with Niti regularly and she always got back to me within 24 hours. This is very important when trying to plan such a trip. Amigo and Niti were also the only company that effortlessly accommodated our desire to extend our stay in Tengboche to attend the festival at the monastery. (November) Once we arrived:  We were greeted at the airport by a very friendly and professional mountain guide 'Hari Adhikari' who immediately helped us navigate our exit from the airport making a very chaotic situation easy. We felt like royalty. Little did we know at that point just how much this one man would shape our trek into the amazing journey it became. For the next 14 days Hari was by our side perfectly pacesetting our speed for success. He steered us to quality tea houses with the best food for breaks, negotiated the best rooms for us every night and even showed us the best spots for pictures along the way. His experience and cheery disposition was very visible with every interaction he had. He seemed to be best friends with every guide, porter and tea house owner we passed. Hence we nicknamed him 'Happy Hari'. No task was too big or small and he made a point of letting us know where he'd be every night (his room number, tent or dining room) in case we needed him. He was not only the main reason for our successful completion of the Trek, but added many enjoyable moments for us as well. If you are lucky enough to have Hari as your guide, make sure you take a pack of UNO cards with you. Hari loves the game! Along with Hari we were also lucky to have on our team an amazing young man Chandra (Sandra) who was our super human porter. He too always wore a smile, even when lugging our bags over rock after rock! Thanks mate, we don't know how you do it. If we can impart one thing we've learned that will make your Trek in Nepal memorable. It's go with Amigo and insist on Hari and Chandra. You won't regret it! Thanks guys, we are forever grateful.
