Upon your arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your guide. The drive from the airport to your hotel offers your first glimpse of Paro Valley, renowned for its lush landscapes and traditional architecture. After check-in, you’ll have time to relax and acclimatize to the altitude. In the evening, a tour briefing will be held to go over the itinerary, introduce you to your motorcycle, and address any questions you may have. You may also have an optional visit to Paro Rinpung Dzong, a stunning fortress that showcases Bhutanese architecture and cultural heritage. Conclude the day with a welcome dinner featuring traditional Bhutanese cuisine.
Route notes
Start your day with breakfast and then head out to visit the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Paro Taktsang). This sacred monastery is perched on a cliffside 900 meters above the valley floor, accessible by a few hours of hiking. The hike rewards you with breathtaking views of the valley and mountains. Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche flew to this site on the back of a tigress and meditated, making this a key pilgrimage site in Bhutan. After lunch, visit the National Museum of Bhutan housed in the Ta Dzong, followed by a tour of the Paro Rinpung Dzong, which serves as the district's administrative and religious center. End your day by strolling through Paro’s vibrant market, where you can pick up Bhutanese textiles and handicrafts.
Route notes
After breakfast, begin your first bike ride from Paro to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital. The 55-kilometer journey is relatively short, but filled with scenic mountain views and the winding roads of the Paro Valley. Once in Thimphu, check in to your hotel and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, visit the National Memorial Chorten, built in memory of Bhutan’s third king, and the massive Buddha Dordenma statue, which overlooks the Thimphu Valley from a hilltop. End the day with a visit to the Tashichho Dzong, an impressive fortress that houses the throne room and offices of the King of Bhutan.
Route notes
Enjoy breakfast before setting out on a ride to Punakha, crossing the stunning Dochula Pass at 3,100 meters. The pass offers panoramic views of the Himalayas and is adorned with 108 memorial chortens, making it a perfect stop for photographs. After descending into the lush Punakha Valley, visit the beautiful Punakha Dzong, situated at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. This dzong is one of Bhutan’s most stunning and historically significant fortresses. You’ll also have the chance to visit Bhutan’s longest suspension bridge, which spans the Po Chhu River.
Route notes
After breakfast, embark on a scenic ride to the picturesque Gangtey Valley, known for its serene landscapes and as the winter home of the endangered Black-necked Cranes. The route takes you through winding mountain roads and across the Pelela Pass, which offers spectacular views. In Gangtey, visit the Gangtey Monastery, an important Nyingma Buddhist site perched on a hill, and if time permits, take a walk along the Gangtey Nature Trail, which offers stunning views of the valley.
Route notes
After breakfast, begin your ride back to Punakha. The return journey provides an opportunity to enjoy the scenic landscapes once more, and you may stop for photographs or visit any sites you may have missed on the way. After arriving in Punakha, the afternoon is yours to explore or relax. For those seeking more adventure, an optional river rafting experience on the Mo Chhu or Pho Chhu rivers is available.
