Planning to come around the right time of the year (March to May and October to Early December)
Full of sights to see along the way, your actual reward for getting up this high is presented when you climb Kala Patthar (5545m) to enjoy the best view of Mt. Everest. Nevertheless, the up-close views of other prominent peaks, like Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Makalu, Nuptse, Pumori, Ama Dablam, Lobuche, Taboche, Cholatse, Thamserku, Imja Tse, Baruntse and many other helps double the beauty of the Everest region. Moreover, the presence of monasteries protecting and exhibiting centuries-old architecture, relics, religion, and religious beliefs add a cultural touch to the trek.
This beautiful trail runs from Lukla to the Everest Base Camp. It’s a 64-kilometer hike broken up into 6 sections – Lukla to Phakding, Phakding to Namche, Namche to Deboche, Deboche to Dingboche, Dingboche to Lobuche, and Lobuche to Everest Base Camp with a layover in Gorakshep. The first 3 sections lie below the timberline, where you can enjoy lively year-round Sherpa villages and the vegetation that ranges from Rhododendron to Juniper to Himalayan Birch to Edelweiss. In the second section, all the way to the final section, the area comes under the territory of the Sagarmatha National Park (also a UNESCO World Heritage Site) which protects the landscape and its accompanying plants and animals in their natural state. Moreover, once you reach the second half of the fourth section of this Short Everest Base Camp hike, things turn adventurous, as the hike will be on a rocky base of the mountains. Although you will be strolling on comparatively flat land, the trail and the air (lowered oxygen level) make the climb more challenging.
Planning to come around the right time of the year (March to May and October to Early December) allows you to enjoy this trek to the fullest.
So, what makes this Short Everest Base Camp Trek different from other Everest Base Camp Trekking packages?
This Short Everest Base Camp hiking package is specially designed for people who cannot afford a long holiday but are looking to go on an Everest trekking adventure in the shortest possible time, without having to compromise on the acclimatization days. To make this happen, you will start like any other Short EBC hike, that is, by driving to Ramechhap (starting from Kathmandu at 1:00 AM) and flying to Lukla on the same day. However, your return journey from Gorakshep to Kathmandu will be on a shared helicopter. This will help you save 3 days, which you will have to add in case you choose to go for other Short Everest Base Camp trekking packages. The package price will go up a little, but the ride back on a helicopter makes the package a huge bang for your buck. Moreover, since accommodation, meals, and airport transfers in Kathmandu are not included in the package, this package gives you full freedom to select them as per your requirements and budget.
Moreover, if adding 3 more days to the trip is not a problem for you and you want to complete the entire 128 kilometers on foot, you might be interested in this short Everest base camp trek package.
If you are interested in completing the entire (arrival to departure) Everest Base Camp trek in just 12 days, this 12 days Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return package might be what you are looking for.

Route notes
The drive from Kathmandu to Ramechhap takes about 5 hours. Therefore, you will start from Kathmandu at 1:00 am. Your trekking guide will pick you up from the hotel and transfer you to the bus station, from where, you will drive to the Manthali Airport located in Ramechhap, on a shared vehicle (Jumbo HiAce). Once at the airport, your guide will take care of the airport formalities, after which, you will fly to Lukla. The flight time is approximately 12-15 minutes. Soon, you will land at the Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla, which is one of the most dangerous airports in the world. In Lukla, you will meet your porters awaiting your arrival. After meeting the porters and transferring the luggage that you want them to carry for you, breakfast will be served at one of the lodges. Enjoy your breakfast, while the porters prepare to carry your luggage. Shortly after breakfast, the trek to Everest Base Camp begins. Phakding is your first night-stop, which is located approximately 8 kilometers north of Lukla. Lukla to Phakding is an easy 4-hour walk, mostly on a comparatively flat and downhill trail. The trail goes through small Sherpa settlements like Thado Koshigaon and Nurning. This section of the trail is decorated with Mani stones, chortens and prayer flags that represent Buddhist culture and religious beliefs, at number of places along the trail. Enjoy the view of Kusum Khangkaru from Thado Koshigaon and Kongde Ri from Phakding. You will reach Phakding around lunch time. Lunch, a short rest and in the afternoon, you will go for an acclimatization hike to one of the nearby monasteries. You will spend some time exploring the monastery and get back to the lodge in Phakding for dinner and overnight stay. Please note: Flights to and from Lukla operate from Manthali Airport in Ramechhap only during the peak season, that is, March-May and October-November. Other time of the year, the flights operate directly from Kathmandu airport. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Route notes
Your approximate 10-kilometer-journey from Phakding to Namche starts after breakfast in Phakding. Perched at the altitude of 3,440 meter, north of Phakding, this bustling town is the most happening and the major town in the entire Everest region. For an average hiker, it takes about 7-8 hours to reach this town. Leaving Phakding, you will head toward the first of many suspension bridges built to connect the Everest Base Camp trail. You will cross the bridge and hike all the way up to Monjo, via Zam Fute, Bengkar and Chhamuwa, where the trail enters the Sagarmatha National Park area. It’s a very pleasant walk through the forest of large Pine trees. In Monjo, your guide will take care of the national park formalities, after which, you will hike down to cross the suspension bridge and continue further north on an easy trail to Larja Dobhan. The infamous Hillary bridge, built across the Dudh Koshi River, comes in sight. You will walk further to cross this bridge. After crossing the bridge, you will first hike to the viewpoint to enjoy the first ever view of Mt. Everest and then continue north on a steeply ascending trail to Namche. In Namche, you will check into the hotel and after short rest, you will go for a guided short walk to explore the town of Namche. You will get back to the lodge in Namche for dinner and overnight stay. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Route notes
You are already over 3000 meters; therefore, you should allow your body to acclimatize to the thinning oxygen level in the air, before gaining further altitude. Keeping active to simply resting in the lodge aids the process of acclimatization. Therefore, after breakfast in Namche, your guide will take you for an acclimatization hike. You will first hike to see the statue of the legendary Tenzing Norgay Sherpa. From here, you will hike to Hotel Everest View that offers breathtaking vista of peaks including Tabuche Peak, Nuptse, Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kusum Khangkaru, Peak 38, Kangtega, Lho Kondge, and the Sundar Peak. You will spend some time enjoying the view and then hike down to explore the largest settlement in the Everest region, the Khumjung Village. The Hillary School, built by Sir Edmund Hillary is the major attraction of this village. After visiting the school, you will hike to the settlement of Khunde, that lies adjacent to the Khumjung Village. This village houses the museum that exhibits the purported Yeti Scalp. After visiting the museum and exploring the village, you will hike back to Namche for dinner and overnight stay. Apart from the grand views of the towering peaks, this hike allows trekkers to understand the lifestyle, culture, tradition and religious beliefs of the Sherpa people living in the upper Khumbu region. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Route notes
Located approximately 12 kilometers north-east of Namche, Deboche is the destination of the day. It takes about 7-8 hour to complete the journey. You will leave Namche after breakfast and head toward Sanasa, past the memorial stupa of Tenzing Norgay and Khyangjuma, on a comparatively flat and easy trail. Peaks like Ama Dablam, Lhotse Shar, Taboche, Kangtega and Thamserku make a grand appearance, the view gets better and better as you walk towards them. About 4 kilometers from Namche lies Khyangjuma that makes one of the best spots to enjoy the marvelous view of Ama Dablam. From Sanasa, the trail gradually descends to the bridge across the Dudh Koshi River at Phunki Tenga. Get ready for the hardest climb of the day, as after crossing the bridge at Phunki Tenga, the trail steeply ascends to Tengboche for about 2.5-3 hours. In Tengboche lies the largest and the most important monastery in the Everest region, which you will visit and observe the daily prayer service by the Buddhist monks. From Tengboche, an easy downhill walk for about 30 minutes, through the forest of fir and birch will take you to Deboche. Dinner and overnight in a lodge in Deboche. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Route notes
Your trek to Dingboche starts shortly after breakfast in Deboche. Dingboche is located approximately 11 kilometer north-east of Deboche and takes about 5-6 hour to reach here from Dingboche. This is going to be the first day of the hike above the tree line. However, starting Deboche, the walk up to Pangboche is comparatively easy and pleasant and the trail goes through the forest of pine. Pangboche is the last year-round settlement on the way to the Everest Base Camp. From Pangboche, you will continue further on a gradually ascending trail that runs along the Imja River to Somare. As you leave Somare, your hike above the tree line begins. The trail grows rockier and the surrounding dry. Continue further north and you will reach a trail junction, where one trail branches off to Pheriche and the other to Dingboche. Walk past the trail junction to cross the bridge and continue further on a gradually ascending trail Dingboche. You will reach Dingboche around lunch time. After lunch, your guide will take you for an acclimatization hike to the stupa built on the hilltop above Dingboche. You can also explore the settlement of Dingboche. You will come back to the lodge in Dingboche for dinner and overnight stay. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Route notes
You are already over 4000 meters; therefore, you should allow your body to acclimatize to the thinning oxygen level in the air, before gaining further altitude. For acclimatization hike, you will be provided with two options – a hike to Nagarjuna Hill and back, or a full day hike to Chhukhung. A hike to Nagarjuna Hill is about 5-6-hour, where you can enjoy the spectacular view of the peaks like Taboche, Cholatse, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Thamserku, Lobuche, Island Peak, Makalu, Baruntse and Peak 38. You will get back to Dingboche around lunch time and you can spend the remaining time at your leisure. However, the hike to Chhukhung is a full day hike that allows you to enjoy the magnificent views of Ama Dablam, Baruntse and Makalu. You will hike carrying packaged lunch, start early and will return to Dingboche around evening time. Dinner and overnight in a lodge in Dingboche. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Route notes
Your hike to Lobuche starts after breakfast in Dingboche. It’s about 8.5-kilometer journey north-west of Dingboche and takes about 5 hours to complete the journey. Initially, the trail gradually ascends to the trail junction in Thukla, past Dusa and Parlung Kharka. This section presents wonderful views of Taboche and Cholatse. From the junction, you will further walk down west to a glacial steam, cross the bridge, and climb to the other side, heading directly up the rough moraine of the Khumbu Glacier, before the trail curves left to the number of memorials to the lost climbers and Sherpas. You can now see a grand view of Mt. Pumori. Continue a little ahead of this point and you will come across another trail junction, from where the trail grows more challenging as the ascent is on loose moraine. Continue further on this trail and soon you will reach Lobuche. You will check into the lodge, have lunch and in the afternoon, you will go for an acclimatization hike in the nearby area. After the hike, you will hike back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Route notes
This day is the day you will reach the base camp of Mt. Everest. It’s a long walk, about 10 kilometers (total) and it takes about 7-8 hour to complete this journey. Therefore, you will have your breakfast at the lodge in Lobuche and start as early as possible. Leaving Lobuche and following the narrow trail that runs in between the glacial moraine and the mountain wall, you will head toward Gorakshep, the last night-stop, before reaching the Everest Base Camp. Walking past the point where the trail branches off to the Italian Pyramid, you will climb a few short vertical climbs and walk across the terminal moraine of the Changri Shar Glacier, before reaching Gorakshep. In Gorakshep, you will have your lunch, leave your luggage and continue your hike to the Everest Base Camp. From Gorakshep, you will first hike toward the Khumbu Glacier and then to the top of the ridge.
